lindseybechtold.net = (Portfolio + Blog)

lindseybechtold.net has come a ways from where it started at the beginning of this semester. During the CSS redesign, it took on a very green, very shamrock/Irish-themed look that I stuck with even in its final form. I kept the general layout in which I have images as links at the top of the page to navigate through the different elements of the site. In making lindseybechtold.net into a portfolio, I added several new links and ended up with two rows of images instead of just the one. The new and/or updated pages are: 'About This Site,' 'The Coolest (Academic) Thing,' 'Blog,' and 'Othergate Journal.' I gave the site a static front page that includes information about who I am and how to contact me (this is slightly problematic because the 'Home' link and the 'About This Site' link lead to the same thing – this is something that I did not have time to resolve, but plan to fix in the near future). I cheated a bit on the top line of link images – to make it so they didn't run under the text above them when they expanded as the cursor hovered over them, I added about 7-10 pixels of white on the top of the larger images to get around that issue.

For Luck meets Life, my blog, I added a "sticky" post that will stay at the beginning of the blog site so that people are greeted with an explanation as to what I'm trying to do with it and how it originated.

One of the great things about Writing through Media this semester was the overlap that I had between this course and one of my other English courses, Literary Journals. The CSS I learned in ENGL 202 was beyond helpful as I worked in a team of students to design the literary journal Othergate. My web essay assignment ended up being a sort of reflection on part of that experience (after I changed my topic twice). I decided to include Othergate Journal in my portfolio because it's a project that I am very proud of and I think it's relevant when thinking about the other assignments from this course and the different things we focused on: design, typography, images, and, of course, making sense of new media technology and how to use it to communicate effectively. I am definitely happy with where lindseybechtold.net is today.
