The end is near and I'm sad that it is so. I am happy to have finally executed my full digital identity portfolio via www.thedahliaprojects.com. I have grown as a meida writer and I'm pretty proud of myself. In respect to traffic I still didn't get that much traffic on my google analytics, but the comments helped. If I were to give myself a grade it'd be a B-.

Essay:

The portfolio in which I created is something that I am very happy with. I came into this class not expecting to see any html or to even learn about Cascading Style Sheets. Ironically, however, when I did, I began to freak out! My husband kept reassuring me that it was easy and that I would get the hang of it in no time. I have made my blog portfolio refined. More refined than my main blog. It took lots of Google searches, bothering my husband, patience and critical thinking however, I think that I did myself justice in the end. The blog portfolio in which I have designed is simple. The font/typography is large and bold. I utilized the marquee "moving banner" formula on my main showcase portfolio blog which I feel makes it more appealing.

The few pieces in which I incorporated into my portfolio were samples of my main blog on New Age Love and Technology as well as samples from our typography assignment, my piece entitled Innocence Lost. Thus, lastly, I also included the ghost picture because I'm a sucker for the supernatural and I really enjoyed creating that piece in adobe photo shop. This call has opened my mind to a lot of computer/technical areas in which I would never have explore on my own. I think that this class would do wonders for inner city kids who do not have a chance to even come close to experiencing this. SO IF YOU CAN READ THIS PROFESSOR WHALEN, think about volunteering in a local inner city school--it would be rewarding! Also, my blog portfolio is fun and easy on the eyes. The tabs are located in the upper right hand corner, with my works cited to the immediate left. I made sure to make the font big and nice so that when other persons visit my blog they won't have to strain their eyes.

Essay:

This is an introduction into my web essay. It's a little bit late, due to a family emergency last week but I'm wrapping up my digital identity as we speak. This essay is a reflection of another side of me..me as a mother. This web essay is dedicated to my family and children! Enjoy!:

I feel that I achieved most of my goals especially the goals that dealt with the type of content I wanted in my blog. I should have blogged more often though. I assumed the CSS would be easy which it wasn't but felt I learned a considerable amount in the time given. If I had to do it all over again I would blog about something more people can relate to. I would give myself a B.

Essay:

With my website, I wanted to embrace the “Don’t make your users think” mantra by making it as user-friendly as possible. I wanted to capture my audience’s attention with a unique, consistent design, so I chose to go with a simple, yet aesthetically appealing theme that showcased a banner of a long, uncolored, and seemingly infinite road that represents my long and exciting journey through my undergraduate career. The home page is showcases a large, black and white picture of me (to stay consistent with my design) with a very brief introduction about me and my contact information. I have five links that redirect the user to my work online, from my two blogs and the web essay I created for this class, to the online journal I created for ENGL 314 and an EBay business I created on my own to make some pocket change. Most of my projects for this class are featured on my two blogs. I think the website is very easy to navigate and showcases some of my best work from this semester.

I stuck with my topic & I did well with it-I ended up posting 1x/week as I realized how long & detailed my entries were getting. My goal was to come up with a blog that I could have fun with & continue post-graduation. Goal: achieved. I was honestly scared coming in to this class with all the new things to try, but it turned out to be a great experience. I'd give myself a B+/A.

Metablog:

I've received over 200 hits and over 30 comments on my Demigod blog. My other blog dedicated to film reviews wasn't as successful, but I think it's only because I lost interest in the topic and focused all my energy on my creative writing blog. If I could rewind time, I would have started with the Demigod blog from the get-go. I'd give myself around a B+ for consistency.

Metablog:

Looking back at my proposal I would say that I accomplished everything that I wanted to. The only difference I would make is I would pick a different topic. I enjoyed my topic but I would have liked to do something I did not know much about and learn about it. Considering the effort I put into my blog and into CSS and how the final product came out I think my blog is A- work

Essay:

lindseybechtold.net has come a ways from where it started at the beginning of this semester. During the CSS redesign, it took on a very green, very shamrock/Irish-themed look that I stuck with even in its final form. I kept the general layout in which I have images as links at the top of the page to navigate through the different elements of the site. In making lindseybechtold.net into a portfolio, I added several new links and ended up with two rows of images instead of just the one. The new and/or updated pages are: 'About This Site,' 'The Coolest (Academic) Thing,' 'Blog,' and 'Othergate Journal.' I gave the site a static front page that includes information about who I am and how to contact me (this is slightly problematic because the 'Home' link and the 'About This Site' link lead to the same thing – this is something that I did not have time to resolve, but plan to fix in the near future). I cheated a bit on the top line of link images – to make it so they didn't run under the text above them when they expanded as the cursor hovered over them, I added about 7-10 pixels of white on the top of the larger images to get around that issue.

For Luck meets Life, my blog, I added a "sticky" post that will stay at the beginning of the blog site so that people are greeted with an explanation as to what I'm trying to do with it and how it originated.

Essay:

In order to create my digital identity I decided to revamp my website by changing the theme. The old theme I created using CSS was a little overwhelming and now the website looks much cleaner and more put together. The background now has only a little decoration, rather than the reoccurring picture I chose to use before. I kept the word choice simple to allow a variety of viewers to read my blog. I also chose to keep the topics acceptable to all ages to broaden the number of viewers that look at my website.
Rather than including an addition webpage on photos, I decided to include an environmental topic of concern, giving the reader insight into some of my interests. Therefore, from the links I’ve included the reader can identify that I have an interest in history and the environment. I decided to keep the home page simple in the hopes that people will search the rest of my page. I included a little bit of information about myself and my typography project which sums up the theme of my blog. The simple format and writing style I chose to use makes the page much more navigable and open to a variety of readers.

Metablog:

With the semester winding down I am still not fully satisfied with the traffic that my blog is getting. Mostly all the traffic is from people going to my site directly and not through Google or any links I have put out there. I am going to continue to try and get my blog noticed by putting links on facebook, twitter and I am going to make my page less private through dashboard.

Essay:

http://mwilkerson.net/

To begin transforming my website into the final, portfolio form, I stared by creating a new UMW blog. The one I used for blogging about work was still very messed up from where I played with the CSS code. I picked a simple blog theme, one with a nice wide banner that I could replace with my own banner. As the title of my portfolio is “where do we go from here?” I used a photo I took of my shoes one day to crop and create the banner, it looks quite cool. Then I had to adjust the fonts. I wanted something interesting with serifs for the title, and settled on Batang, a font I’d never used before. For the headings of entries I wanted something a little more artistic and playful looking, and so used Freestyle Script. I also adjusted the font size and color on a few minor things.
It was a little difficult picking the tone for the text of my portfolio. I did not want to go with a very serious style and tone; I wanted to go with an honest and less formal one. I am inviting anyone who sees this site to view some of what I have accomplished in my four years at Mary Washington, and comment if they wish. Picking the content was the easiest part of the project—I wanted a piece of work from each of my major interests. I tried to achieve a sense of balance by including an equal number of text versus image content. I am proud of my work and my portfolio, so please check it out!

Essay:

I wanted to focus two things in my digital identity project. I wanted to create a website that shows what kind of person I am and to display skills/abilities I have. I tried to keep the design simple as possible since I already tried crazy and messy look for my blog- style assignment already. Also, I’m planning to include my website on my resume for future employees and thought making it simple will emphasis the content of the website and will make it easier to navigate around. Right now, lot of the projects in the portfolio are what we did in our class, but as I take more classes that are related to my major (computer science) and I do more Computer related projects, I will change the pages to focus more on my computer science project. I might make another blog-page to group projects in one page if I get loaded up a little. The Background-color of the website is gray which I think creates very neutral and clean look that also is kind of a technology feel. Although my portfolio is heavily based on the projects I did in classes, I try to include things that will show my personality a little, to let people know what kind of a person I am and what I’m interested in. I did that by adding ‘blog’ and ‘picture video’ as my page. Blog page shows things that interest me and picture video page shows what kind of a person I am. Overall, I am very satisfied with my website and it was fun playing around with it.

This blog has been a fantastic learning experience. That said, it's honestly been a rough ride. Finding a themed topic proved a far bigger challenge than I anticipated, but it's given me some great ideas for things to blog about in the future. If i were to give myself a grade, I'd give myself a C for the content of my blog, but an A for the amount I've learned from my mistakes.

Metablog:

I’ve achieved most of my goals; my blog is what I imagined it would be, just not as prolific. Untrue assumptions: blogging about work would be easy. True assumptions: I’m not a fan of blogging. If I could do it again I would pick a different topic, something with more material. I enjoyed my blog, but it’s a subject that can only go so long without going into painful detail.

Essay:

I chose to change the appearance of my home page and re-map my domain name to this one, but I still kept the design that I had made for my blog. I redirected my rhythmandpoetry blog into the new page that I created and made sure that once someone was in my blog that they would still be able to be redirected back to the correct home page and to my other pages. I added a little bit about myself such as my major and the direction I want to go with my degree once I obtain it. I also created a new page with my recently updated resume. Since I changed the appearance of my new blog I had to go back and update my web essay to make it fit better with the new appearance. What took the longest time for me to do was re-mapping and redirecting everything to its correct place. But overall I really like how MY DIGITAL IDENTITY turned out.

Metablog:

Since this was my first blog experience, I didn't know what to expect going in to it. My original goal was to write about media diversity, to write about my opinions on the topic. I'm satisfied that I was consistent and was on topic. What I didn't know was how much audience I was going to attract and I could have more audience if I advertised it more but overall, It was B+ blog

Essay:

I'm really happy with my final portfolio! I was able to achieve about 95% of the things that I wanted to. I ended up creating another UMW blogs account and sort of started over. I chose the theme Sea Shore to start with and made a lot of changes from there. The main page is a little biography of myself along with the purpose of the portfolio. I ended up including all of my projects. For each of them I added a tab at the top of the page. At first I had trouble linking some of them to their appropriate tabs but eventually got it. For my blog and web essay I redirected them to my portfolio so I was able to keep the original layouts of those. The only thing that gave me trouble were the widgets that came with my theme. I couldn't figure out how to make those go away.
For each project that I put up I added in a little description of what the instructions were. I also included which ones were my favorite and why I chose the images that I did. The webpage itself is definitely pleasing to the eye, which was one of my main concerns when I was combining all of the different colors. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with how my portfolio turned out. Here's the link

Essay:

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to change my website as much as I would have liked to because when I tried to make changes to the CSS, it didn’t show up on my website. I tried to change the entire background of my webpage but, I was only able to change a small portion of the background which only showed up at the top of the webpage. But, I was excited about the fact that at least changed because it showed that I did make some progress. Just making this change took me a good 2 hours and although I know that it should not have taken that long, I had to figure out where to paste the CSS code in the CSS section on the umwblogs website. I was also able to change the title of my “About Me” section and was able to add the essay about myself under that tab. I still couldn’t find out why my 2 videos from the Obama rally would not show up on my website. I followed the troubleshooting website but, the videos were still not viewable. It would have been nice to know how to change the background for individual pages on my website as well because I wanted to have a theater theme on my blog page and a political themed background for my web essay on political parodies. I think I was able to convey my rhetorical message about political parodies well. My about me section was rhetorically informative as well. I think that when people read the content on my website they will automatically become interested in knowing more about me and political parodies. It may influence people to look up more information about political parodies in this past election as well as older political campaigns. I wish that I was more tech-savvy so that I could enhance the site a lot more so that it could look more appealing. Posted here is a link to my website: http://arieviv.info/

Metablog:

I came close to achieving my goals in blogging. I could have kept up with posting a bit more frequently. I did stay on topic and stayed consistent in the quality of the blog posts,if only I had posted more often.I didn't expect to have issues with low readership. If I could do it again I would try to get more readers. Overall I would give myself a b plus as a blogger.
